Can you buy this house with no down payment?

A USDA loan is one of the two ways to buy a home with nothing down. The catch is the map: the house has to sit in an area the USDA counts as rural. That includes a lot more places than people expect, including the edges of many suburbs.

What this check does and does not tell you

USDA has two tests. This tool answers the first one only.

  1. 1. The place

Is the house inside an eligible area on the USDA's map? That is what this page checks, against the USDA's own live map service.

  2. 2. The household

Your household income has to sit under a limit that changes by county and by how many people live with you. This page does not check that. A green answer here does not mean you qualify.

The property also has to be your primary home, and the loan comes with its own fees. The USDA is the authority on all of it: check it on the USDA site before you count on the answer.

Area data: USDA Rural Development eligibility map service, layer "RHS SFH MFH". Address lookup: US Census Bureau geocoder. Both are public US government services. lowest.mortgage is not a lender and does not make loans. This is not an offer of credit and not a decision on your application.
